As a result of the targets set by the EU conventional heating systems are set to become obsolete in years to come. Renewable energy is capable of providing all our energy needs, and DMS are perfectly positioned to help our clients work towards getting rid of the need to rely on power or fuel deliveries. With heating systems up to 450% efficient, combined with Micro Generation and insulation it is perfectly possible to become entirely energy self sufficient already. Why not speak to us to help plan and budget and maximise the use of Government incentives. Having an energy reduction plan can help you work towards removing your energy bills entirely.
The main advantage that modern boilers have over their elderly counterparts is that they are all condensing boilers. A well-maintained older boiler will still burn its fuel very efficiently, but it’ll inevitably lose heat in the hot gases that escape up the flue. In contrast, a condensing boiler has a bigger heat exchanger, recovering more heat, sending cooler gases up the flue and is more efficient. Sometimes the flue gases get so cool that the water vapour in the gas condenses out (giving the boiler its name). When this happens, even more energy is recovered from the condensing vapour, and the efficiency gets higher still.
Your boiler needs an annual service visit to check that it is operating correctly and safely. The service must be done annually or the manufacturers warranty will be void.
To make sure they're safe and energy efficient boilers need to be serviced annually. Regular services are vital for checking that boilers are working correctly and ensure that the manufacturers warranty stays valid.
DMS Installations offer a wide range of boilers and heating systems, all designed to suit your individual needs, with prices starting from as little as £1,799* for a boiler replacement, allowing you to reap the benefits of a more efficient heating system.It all depends on how old and inefficient your old boiler is but the following figures** demonstrate the approximate saving when replacing your old boiler for an A-rated condensing boiler in a typical detached home :
* Subject to survey
**Source: Energy Saving Trust, 2014 based on a gas heated, detached home
Replacing your boiler is a sensible investment for anyone to make. Your boiler accounts for about 60% of what you spend on energy bills each year so having an efficient boiler is very important.
Many people may view this as an unnecessary expense but, with energy prices on the rise, the more efficient your heating system is, the more control you'll have over your energy costs.
Boilers are rated A - G, with A being the most energy efficient and G being the least energy efficient. Replacing an old G-rated gas boiler with an A-rated, high efficiency condensing boiler could make a huge difference to your energy bills, potentially saving as much as £300 every year.
From 1st April 2005, your local authority must be told when you have a new or replacement boiler fitted. At Mark Group we do this for you and you will receive a ‘building regulations compliance’ certificate from GAS SAFE after the work has been completed. GAS SAFE will also tell the local authority that you have had a new or replacement boiler fitted. You should keep this certificate as you may need it if you sell your home.
You will need to bleed your Radiators when you find they are cold at the top and hot at the bottom. If you have a sealed system you will need to ensure the system water pressure is reset after bleeding. Warning – be careful not to over tighten the radiator bleed screw after bleeding the air out.
A condensing boiler recovers a much heat as possible from the flue gases, this energy would normally be wasted with a conventional (non condensing) boiler.
The flue gases of a condensing boiler discharge as low as 30°C and therefore cool quicker in the atmosphere, when the outside temperature is cool it causes a plume, similar in effect to your breath on a cold morning.
You only need to top up the system pressure if you have a sealed Central Heating System. You will normally find a filling loop kit located near to or under your boiler and the boiler usually contains a system pressure gauge. The filling loop will consist of a flexible hose that connects the main water pipe to the heating circuit. Located at each end of where you connect the flexible hose you will find either 1 or 2 taps that can be opened to allow the mains water to pass into the heating system. The pressure needs to be approximately 1 Bar when the system is cold. If you boiler contains an integral filling loop then please refer to the manufactures instructions for use.
Combination boilers heat mains water directly as required. During this process the Calcium Bi-Carbonate changes to Calcium Carbonate, this creates carbon dioxide which is millions of tiny bubbles, this gives the water the cloudy effect. Once the water settles and cools it begins to clear, this reaction is more apparent in hard water areas and from boilers with a slower flow rate. This occurrence is purely cosmetic.
This could be due to your radiator needing bleeding (see note above) or it could be due to the thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) that is shut down too low. Try turning your TRV fully open and ensure there is a demand on from your clock/programmer and room thermostat.
Check there is a demand from the clock/programmer (ensure the settings are correct) and also check that the room thermostat is calling for a demand. You may need to refer to the manufacturers user instructions. Dependant on your installation you may have a combined Clock/programmer and Thermostat or they may be separate.
Your TRV’s control the individual radiator that they are connected to. They sense the air temperature around the head of the valve and then turn on or off the radiator accordingly. Due to the mechanical nature of the valve your radiator will be on or off – they do not adjust the overall temperature of the radiator. Please also bear in mind that air flow around the valve is important for their operation. If you have long curtains that cover the valves then this will affect the way it operates.
If you have a conventional boiler with hot water cylinder you need to check that there is a demand on the clock/programmer and you need to ensure the cylinder thermostat is set correctly – this should ideally be set at 60°C, but is a custom control and can be adjusted to your requirements.If you have Combination boiler then the mains cold water enters the boiler, heats it as it passes through the boiler and is delivered to the taps. Because of this the faster the flow of water through the boiler the cooler it will be. Check that the boiler is turned on and operating and then adjust the water flow rate at the tap to see if it makes the water warmer/cooler.
The EU has set a package of energy and climate targets known as ErP (Energy Related Products) and requires a set labeling structure, ELD (Energy Labelling Directive). Ambitious new targets have been set to reduce energy use and protect the climate. All Heating products from DMS are A rated or better, exceeding the requirements many times over in most cases. All our boilers and renewables are labelled in accordance with the new legislation.
The targets for 2020 are;
20% increase in renewable energy.
20% cut in greenhouse gasses.
20% cut in energy consumption.
We can help our clients become entirely self sufficient in energy use.
